Armenian Pres calls for Nagorny Karabakh`s participation in peace talks.
YEREVAN, December 16 (Itar-Tass) - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan
has spoken out in favor of bringing representatives of Nagorny Karabakh to
the table of negotiations on peace settlement around that much-troubled
territory, which is legally a part of Azerbaijan.
Tuesday, Sargsyan received in Yerevan a delegation of the unrecognized
Republic of Nagorny Karabakh led by parliament speaker Ashot Gulian.
The delegation came to Yerevan to take in the 7th session of the
commission for cooperation between Armenia and Karabakh's National
Assemblies.
"We should develop solid awareness of the fact that negotiations on
the Karabakh problem can lead up to success only in a situation where the
Republic of Nagorny Karabakh takes part in the talks directly,"
Sargsyan said.
"There's no alternative in this field," he indicated.
"We must tap the solutions that will prevent new persecution and
ethnic cleansing of the Armenian population in Nagorny Karabakh," Sargsyan
believes.
He noted with an obvious satisfaction the growing ties between the
parliamentary circles in Armenia and Nagorny Karabakh and made known his
hope that "MPs from Nagorny Karabakh will get new opportunities for
participation in various regional and international processes with the aid
of Armenia's parliament so that they could declare the position of the
people of Karabakh and to make known their will for deciding their own
future on their own land for themselves."
Sargsyan indicated that he provides detailed information to the
President of Nagorny Karabakh after each round of negotiations on the
Karabakh problem.
