Air temperatures in Moscow region reaching down to minus 30 Celsius.

MOSCOW, December 16 (Itar-Tass) - Whatever the occasional residents of
Moscow City and Moscow region might be thinking of in the small hours of
Wednesday once they found themselves on the streets for some unfortunate
reason, it was not the global warming, to be sure.
At around 01:00 hours, air temperatures in some parts of the area were
gradually reaching minus 30 degrees Celsius.
Reports from the town of Cherusti on the eastern administrative border
of the region spoke of minus 29 degrees, and the Domodedovo airport
weather monitoring service reported the same temperature.
The environs of the Sheremetyevo airport and the town of Dmitrov, 60
kilometers to the north of Moscow showed minus 27, while the weather
monitoring stations near Vnukovo airport and in the town of Klin, 60
kilometers to the northwest of the city, informed of registering minus 26
degrees.
Moscow City was somewhat former warmer, as temperature gages at a
meteorological bureau located near the main compound of Moscow Lomonosov
State University on Sparrow Hills showed a mere minus 24 degrees.
Weather forecasters from some parts of the region reported slight
snowing.
As for the historical records for this day, the record low temperature
of minus 28.8 degrees was in registered in 1997, while the highest
temperature of plus 6.3 degrees was recorded in 2006.
Warnings that weather forecasters issued Monday night suggested that
the temperature in Moscow City would unlikely rise before 09:00 hours
Wednesday.
On the whole, forecasts indicated that Moscow is likely to see minus
22 to minus 20 degrees throughout the day.
Snowfalls are not ruled out by the end of this week, which is typical
for climate in this part of Russia, where snow often comes to replace
periods of biting frosts.
The average temperature throughout the region is likely to go up minus
8 degrees by next weekend.
