RI CUSTOMS FOIL ATTEMPT TO SMUGGLE IN 2 KG OF CRYSTAL METHAMPHETAMINE

Tangerang, June 9 (ANTARA) - Customs and excise officers at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten Province, have detained an Indonesian, identified as Hengki Nio (44), for trying to smuggle in 2 kg of crystal methamphetamine. Nio arrived on a Viva Macao flight from Hong Kong, the head of the airport's customs and excise office, Rahmat Subagio, said here on Monday. "The illicit drugs were hidden in a specially-designed piece of luggage and he tried to escape by involving a porter," he said. Nio, a resident of West Jakarta, had been paid Rp20 million and provided with a ticket to smuggle in the crystal methamphetamine which was to be further transported to Medan, North Sumatra. The customs and excise office had called in the Jakarta police to investigate the drug trafficking case. - end.
