Iran calls for atomic arms ban

TEHRAN, Dec. 22 (MNA) -- Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, called on Monday for a global nuclear weapons ban.
But Jalili insisted all nations have the right to develop nuclear energy for civilian purposes.
Jalili, who was on a tour of Tokyo to meet with senior Japanese officials, said the Hiroshima tragedy “must never be repeated”.
“The crime that was committed in Hiroshima must never be repeated,” Jalili told reporters at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan.
The United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.
“All the efforts of the world should be directed toward the eradication of these weapons,” he said.
