TEHRAN, Dec. 28 (MNA) – Dr. Abbas Zarenejad, an advisor to the health minister, announced on Monday that about 60 Tehrani citizens were injured in the Ashura incidents on Sunday.

Most of the injured suffered minor injuries and were released on Monday, he added.

On the tenth of Muharram called Ashura which is a mourning day on the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), some protesters staged rallies in Tehran.

Police clashed with protesters and managed to quell the situation by using baton, tear gas and warning shots.

Earlier on Sunday, the deputy national police chief, Ahmadreza Radan, said four protesters were killed at gatherings in Tehran.

One person was shot dead mysteriously, two were killed in a car accident, and one fell off a bridge, he explained.

However, according to a report posted on the Press TV, eight people were killed during the Sunday unrest. The Press TV quoted an anonymous source for its report.

According to Radan, dozens of policemen were also injured.
