PM NAJIB CALLS ON PEOPLE TO REALISE 1MALAYSIA IN SPIRIT, PRACTICE
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 (Bernama) -- Najib Tun Razak has called on
the people to join him in ushering in the new year by making the 1Malaysia
concept a reality.
"The year has certainly brought its share of rewards and challenges, but I
look forward to 2010, so that we can continue to chart our path together towards
realising the 1Malaysia concept in spirit and practice.
"I hope you continue to join me in this effort!" said the Prime Minister in
reflecting on the year that was with three days left to enter 2010 in his
1Malaysia blog.
Najib, who assumed office in early April, said he had witnessed many
occasions that proved the 1Malaysia concept was a long standing practice in
Sabah and Sarawak, both East Malaysia states.
"These moments give me great comfort that we are on the right path towards
greater unity and prosperity," he wrote, adding that he noted the value of
1Malaysia was well received.
Najib, the first Malaysian leader to go cyber in touching base with the
people, said he also looked forward to meeting his "internet friends and fans"
in programmes scheduled for next year.
Apart from the blog, the Prime Minister tweets and has his own Facebook.
Najib said he received 400 comments and e-mails when he invited the public
to share their ideas for Budget 2010, his first as the Prime Minister and
Finance Minister.
He said the government was now moving forward with its transformation
programme after having designed a comprehensive action for the six National Key
Result Areas, among the new initiatives for the "People First, Performance Now"
administration.
He also highlighted the government's second economic stimulus package worth
RM60 billion in response to the global economic downturn, and in liberalising
measures to shift towards a better national economic model.
"In light of our goal to survive the economic downturn and continue an
upwards momentum in development, I spent a lot of time addressing diplomatic
relations," he said.
Najib recalled his trip to China in retracing the footsteps of his father,
the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, who as the country's second prime minister
established diplomatic ties with Beijing.
