Mariinsky Theatre opens a season of Rodion Shchedrin`s music.

ST. PETERSBURG, December 29 (Itar-Tass) - A season of music by Rusian
composer Rodion Schedrin will open at St. Petersburg's Mariinsky Theatry
on Tuesday.
The new project titled "Rodion Shchedrin at the Mariinsky Theatre"
includes operas, ballets and symphony music.
Pianist Denis Matsuyev and the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra conducted
by Valery Gergiyev will play Shchedrin's Fifth Piano Concert on Tuesday
night where the composer and his wife Maya Plisetskaya, a former ballet
star, will be present. The couple will also attend a rehearsal of
Shchedrin's contemporary opera "The Enchanted Pilgrim". Its first night
will be held in St. Petersburg on January 2.
Ballets "Carmen suite" composed for choreographer Alberto Alonso and
Anna Karenina to be staged by Moscow choreographer Alexey Ratmansky will
see the first night in April and May.
"The Hunchback Little Horse" ballet staged by Ratmansky at the
Mariinsky Theatre in 2009 will be included in the season's program
together with "The Dead Souls" opera.
The new subscription season will last until June 17. It will end with
a concert of Shchedrin's music during the Stars of White Nights festival.
