Iran's majlis speaker urges efforts to promote spirit of brotherhood
QUCHAN, Iran, Jan. 3 (MNA) -- The Majlis speaker has called for efforts to create a spirit of brotherhood as the country is caught in a tense political atmosphere in follow-up to the June presidential election.
Ali Larijani made the remarks in Quchan, a city in the northeastern Khorassan Razavi province, on Saturday.
Commenting on the incidents that have followed the June presidential election, he said although these events have been harming the Islamic revolution they made the public more vigilant.
On December 27, when people were marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), a highly revered religious figure for Shia Muslims, a group of protestors in Tehran clashed with police, chanted slogans against top government officials, and damaged public property.
On Wednesday, people staged marches throughout the country to protest against the anti-government riots in Tehran and chanted slogans in support of the Islamic Republic.
“Today people have shown the way to everybody, so it is the time that political groups choose their path,” he noted.
The speaker said certain elements sought to sow discords in the society on the Ashura day.
Listening to voice of people
In a reference to political opponents, Larijani said listening to the voice of people will help promote a balanced political atmosphere with regard to ethics in the country.
Speaking to people in Neishaboor, Khorasan Razavi Province, on Saturday, he said nobody is seeking to revenge on protestors but “our advice is that you hear the voice of the nation. This way will help create a balanced political ethics in the country.”
He also advised all political dissidents to “come to their senses”.
Do not fan the flames of tension
Larijani advised leaders from the rival political camp not to fan the flames of tension in the country with their words and messages.
The incidents were triggered by protests against the June 12 election result but certain persons did not follow their complaints through legal procedures, he told people in Chenaran, Khorasan Razavi Province, on Friday.
He said these protests helped the enemy take advantage of the situation.
Commenting on the violent incidents on December 27, he called for a serious penalty for the people who vandalized public properties and showed disrespect to religious values.
He went on to say that it is impossible to avoid criticism in the country. “We do not say that there is no problem with the administration and the Majlis but the things which happened these days were not criticism.”
“Do you (protestors) want to create dictatorship in the country again or under the pretext of freedom of expression, create oppression in the county?” he asked the protestors.
