G8 justice, interior ministers to discuss cooperation Wed

TOKYO, June 11 (Itar-Tass) - A meeting of the Group of Eight (G-8)
ministers of justice and the interior opens here on Wednesday in
preparation for the July G-8 summit due to take place on Hokkaido Island.
The heads of the ministries from Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada,
Russia, France, the United States, and Japan intend to devote special
attention to the elaboration of joint measures to fight thefts of personal data.
In the estimate of G-8 law enforcement agencies, a whole number of
serious crimes, including money laundering and trade in humans, are quite often connected with the unlawful use of the documents of citizens or organisations. An increase in such abuses, including those with the use of the Internet, has been observed in the leading countries of the world in recent years.
At the ministerial meeting, which will continue till June 13, Russia is represented by Minister of the Interior Rashid Nurgaliyev, Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov, and Prosecutor-General Yuri Chaika.
The meeting is to be also attended by Interpol Secretary General
Ronald Noble, Hugh Richardson, head of the European Commission
representative office in Japan, and Antonio Maria Costa, Executive
Director of the UN Department on Narcotics and Crime.
It has become known to Itar-Tass that a final statement by
participants in the meeting is expected to include the thesis about the countries' recognition of the fact that crimes with the use of stolen data have become a serious threat to economic activities on a world scale.
