7.5 MLN TOURISTS VISIT ISTANBUL IN 2009

ISTANBUL (A.A) - 06.01.2010 - Istanbul city of Turkey has attracted 7.5 million tourists in 2009.
Istanbul Culture and Tourism Directorate General's data showed that Istanbul attracted 339,897 tourists in January; 408,083 tourists in February; 485,607 visitors in March; 632,209 tourists in April; 700,123 tourists in May; 698,648 tourists in June; 915,620 tourists in July; 747,674 tourists in August; 679,686 visitors in September; 761,692 tourists in October; 555,917 in November and 584,585 visitors in December 2009.
The number of tourists visiting Istanbul rose by 6.5 percent in 2009 when compared to 2008.
Turkey has attracted nearly 26 million tourists in the first 11 months of 2009. During January-November period, mostly German, Russian and British tourists preferred Turkey as a holiday destination and tourists mainly visited the Mediterranean region.
