TURKEY TO ASSUME UN SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENCY IN SEPTEMBER
Baku, 6 January (АzerTAc). Turkey will take over the UN Security Council rotating presidency in September, 2010.
According to UN official website, Turkey’s priorities for this year include effective conflict prevention, peacekeeping, UN reforms, combating terrorism, illegal migration and drug trafficking, human rights etc.
Turkey comes up with a number of UN Security Council reforms to make it more democratic. In order to reinforce the credibility of the General Assembly, and thus the United Nations, there needs to be a permanent and effective follow-up mechanism for the implementation of its resolutions.
Turkey is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
