Talks on nuclear facilities successful, Pyongyang says

PYONGYANG, June 12 (Itar-Tass) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) regards as successful the talks held here this week between Pyongyang and Washington officials on matters connected with finalising the disablement of nuclear facilities at the Yongbyon research centre, said a report circulated by the Korean Central News Agency on Thursday.
The American delegation, led by Sung Kim, head of the Korea Desk at the US Department of State, discussed, in particular, a timeframe for the elimination of the cooling tower of rector at Yongbyon.
Analysts believe that the experts of the two countries also exchanged views on the problem of reprocessing the unused fuel rods that were intended for North Korean reactors.
An official in the DPRK Foreign Ministry emphasized that the sides had also held consultations on measures concerning an appropriate political and economic compensation promised to Pyongyang in exchange for denuclearisation steps.
According to Washington, eight out of eleven technical stages of the disablement of three main nuclear facilities of the DPRK have been
implemented as of now.
