China taikonaut to take first-ever spacewalk in October

BEIJING, June 12 (Itar-Tass) - The first-ever spacewalk by a Chinese taikonaut (cosmonaut) will be taken in October this year, the Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday referring to a space programme official.
An exact date for such an event, a historic one to the country, is to be decided upon later on. A spacewalk is scheduled to be taken during the flight of the third Chinese manned spaceship Shenzhou-7. Active preparations for the spaceship launch are currently under way.
As Yang Waohua, director of the National Academy of Space
Technologies, said earlier, the testing of key elements for the
accomplishment of the space mission had already been completed.
It was reported earlier that the first spacewalk of taikonaut would be broadcast live. China has already deployed the communications satellite Tianlian-1 into orbit for the implementation of the project.
The launch of the Shenzhou-7 from Jianquang cosmodrome in Gansu
Province is to be effected within the framework of the second phase of the development of the national space programme. The first phase included two manned space flights aboard the Shenzhou-5 in 2003 and Shenzhou-6 in 2005.
