50 CCTV FOR MELAKA CITY
MELAKA (Malaysia), Jan 8 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Historical City Council (MBMB) has installed 50 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras throughout the city in southern state of Melaka to create a safe and systematic environment.
Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam said the CCTVs installed covered the Bandar
Hilir area, the banks of Sungai Melaka (Melaka river) and several other
locations beginning Jan 1.
"Under the system, MBMB in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police can
carry out 24-hour monitoring of certain locations to ensure the safety of
visitors in the city area," he told reporters after launching the Melaka
Integrated Supervision System (MISSY) here Thursday.
Mohd Ali said the CCTVs were installed in crime-prone areas, congested
roads, public areas, tourist spots and government buildings.
He said the CCTV control centre would be monitored from the Melaka
Contingent Police Headquarters control centre at Bukit Beruang and the MBMB
engineering building.
Previously, 23 CCTV cameras had been installed but they were not functioning
well.
