"BIG LEAGUE TABLES" TO GAUGE POLICE PERFORMANCE
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 (Bernama) -- The public can now gauge and monitor the performance of each police station in the country through the introduction of an initiative called the "big league tables".
Launching the initiative Thursday, Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan
said the new approach was part of the force's efforts to reduce crime.
He said that under the initiative, each police station would be ranked and
that the public would be able to see which stations had performed up to
expectation.
"We will appoint individuals from the Home Ministry as well as from among
members of non-governmental organisations, international bodies and the public
to carry out the monitoring process as well as respond to public surveys.
"This is to ensure that the police's delivery service achieves international
standard and benchmark, especially in community policing, investigation and
patrolling," he said after opening the force's seminar on quality and innovation
management, here.
He said that reducing crime would be among the factors in determining the
ranking of a police station.
The target was to reduce violent crime by five per cent, street crime by 20
per cent and to increase by five per cent the implementation of community
policing, he said.
"Customer's satisfaction is also among the benchmark in determining the
ranking," he said.
