BADMINTON - RI'S VITA/LILIYANA MOVE TO SINGAPORE OPEN'S QUARTER-FINALS
Singapore, June 12 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's double shuttlers Vita Marissa/Liliyana Natsir moved to the quarter-finals after beating Singapore's Mok Jing Qiong/Samantha Neo at the Aviva Singapore Open on Thursday.
The fifth seed double players of Indonesia won over Mok Jing Qiong/Samantha Neo 21-5, 21-11 only within 13 minutes.
The day before, the 2007 China Masters champion defeated another Singaporean pair, Li Bo/Thng Ting Ting, 21-8, 21-10 to reach the big 16 round.
Vita/Liliyana will meet a strong rival, namely the winner of the match between fourth seed Gail Emms/Donna Kellog from Britain and Helle Nielsen/Marie Roepke from Denmark, on Thursday evening.
Indonesian men's single player Simon Santoso also defeated Japan's Shoji Sato 21-19, 21-14 at the US$200,000-prize tournament qualifying him for the quarter-finals where he will meet Malaysia's Sairul Amar Ayob.
Sairul Amar Ayob previously beat Anup Sridhar from India 21-17, 21-13.
Besides Simon and Vita/Liliyana, other Indonesian players who have moved to the big eight are single Adriyanti Firdasari and first seed mixed double Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir.
