Trial of killer police chief to resume Jan 11
MOSCOW, January 9 (Itar-Tass) - The trial of former Moscow district
police chief Denis Yevsyukov, who opened gunfire in a supermarket, killing
two persons and wounding several shoppers, will resume on January 11.
At its last pre-New Year session, the Moscow City Court continued to
question the injured parties. One of the witnesses was Ilya Gerasimenko,
19.
Gerasimenko barely escaped death in the shooting incident provoked by
Yevsyukov and has been spending his own money on medications. He needs
surgery to remove another bullet stuck in his body. Besides, he needs
medical services that are not covered by the mandatory medical insurance.
The claimant will have to pay for the medical services out of his own
pocket, his lawyer Igor Trunov said.
The police officer is facing charges for killing two and more persons
in a socially dangerous way, attempting an assassination of two and more
persons for hooligan motives, attacking a law enforcement officer, and
illegal trafficking in arms.
Yevsyukov has been charged with the killing of two and attempting to
kill 25 people and facing up 20-year or lifetime imprisonment.
At the end of December, Yevsyukov partly pleaded guilty. Prior to
that, the court had extended his arrest till June 9, 2010. Yevsyukov asked
for the examination of his case by a panel of three judges.
Russian legislation provides for three forms of court proceedings: a
judge examines a case personally, a case is examined by a panel of three
judges, or a case is examined by a jury.
