M'SIAN MINISTER SAYS HE HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF HELIPAD ON BORDER AREA
Jakarta, Jun 12 (ANTARA) - Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato Ahmad Shabery Cheek said he had no knowledge at all of a helipad built in the border area of West Kalimantan province and the Serawak State of Malaysia.
"I don't know where the location of the helipad is," Dato Ahmad in the company of Communications and Information Minister Muhammad Nuh said in a press conference after the signing of an MoU on cooperation between the Communications and Information Ministries of the two countries here on Thursday.
Dato Ahmad said that he had to ask for a clarification from the relevant agencies in Malaysia.
He denied that a helipad is located seven meters from the border would be used for intelligence activities.
"I was shocked to hear about this accusation that it is linked to intelligence activity. It may have led to bad confidence building and therefore it is impossible," he said.
If the report was linked to intelligence activities, Dato Ahmad said it was not necessary to do it physically by building it close to the location, as there is sophisticated long distance sensoring technology by using the satellite.
In the meantime, Minister Muhammad Nuh said Malaysia needed to make a clarification of helipad to prevent speculation which might create a rift between the two parties.
