Iran's senior MP urges political opponents to work for unity
TEHRAN, Jan. 11 (MNA) – Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi has called on political elites and key figures affiliated to the two major rival political wings to make a bid to restore unity in the country.
“No one, except foreigners, benefits from the unrest in the country,” the senior lawmaker told the Mehr News Agency.
Pointing to the Supreme Leader’s recent remarks calling for avoiding futile disputes, he said it is the obligation of two sides to stop pointless quarrels over trivial issues.
“The administration should implement the 20-Year Outlook Plan (2005-2025) and the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2010-15). The Majlis should examine and pass the annual budget bill and fifth development plan. All of these show that the nation and all officials have a heavy responsibility to shoulder,” the lawmaker explained.
As the Supreme Leader has warned these political conflicts have been designed by the enemies of the Islamic Republic to entangle Iranians in fruitless activities in order to prevent the Islamic Republic to realize its development plans, he stated.
“However, the key political figures have not performed their duties to bring about calm in the society. Even some of them have played a negative role in this regard. But they should discharge their obligations to expand an atmosphere of solidarity in the society,” Boroujerdi noted.
