U.S. decision to screen tourists violates privacy: Iran

TEHRAN, Jan. 11 (MNA) – U.S. decision to screen travelers from certain countries including Iran violates personal privacy, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Monday.

The U.S. recently approved a plan to screen foreign visitors from certain countries, including Iran.

“This measure violates the individuals’ privacy and many countries even the European nations have raised objections to (the decision),” Mehmanparast told the Mehr News Agency.

This method is incompatible with divine religions and damages religious creeds, he said, adding, “If Americans really seek to beef up security measures to counter terrorist plots (they) can use other tools” which do not intrude travelers’ privacy.

This method somehow affronts people and the world public opinion would respond to it, he noted.

MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Sunday that Iran plans to screen all U.S. citizens applying for tourist visas to enter the country in response to the United States’ decision to screen travelers from Iran.

From now on, all U.S. citizens who intend to enter Iran will be fingerprinted and they will also be screened if the U.S. screens Iranians attempting to enter the United States, the MP explained.
