Problem of disposal of solid wastes

Almaty, January 12, 2010 (Khabar) - Kazakhstan has 22 billion tonnes of waste including 96 million tones of household waste, with ecologists saying that the problem of waste disposal has always existed. The problem of their disposal was still exists, environmentalists say. Landfills are overloaded. Toxic substances that have landfills, penetrate into the soil and underground water, wind-blown in the neighborhood. Many Kazakh ecologists propose to adopt the experience of Europe and enter the sorting of garbage. It is also necessary to develop recycling and reuse of waste.

Mels Yeleusizov, chairman, Tabigat ecological union:
- All waste has a lot of dangerous substances, especially industrial waste. Although mercury thermometers contain small quantity of mercury, it is enough to poison an area.

Mels Yeleusizov suggested adopting the experience of Europe. For example, in Britain and Germany people use separate containers for food waste, cans and plastic. These containers are then sent to enterprises for reuse. Almaty also has its own recycling plant, which produces packing bands and plastic pellets. Do not rush to throw away things that seem useless but just look at them differently and follow the example of som pupils of an Almaty school. These pupils organized an exhibition of objects made of plastic bags, CDs, vinyl records, tissues and bottles. As a result, they made pictures, statuettes, robots and Christmas tree decorations.

Maria Goncharova, 7th former:
- I liked this kind of work because we used useless material and created original things, which can decorate a flat.

Dalila Ashlyayeva, 7th former:
- People are throwing away a lot of litter which is then sent to the dump. Our land is not so big and there is a risk of polluting it. By giving a second life to various objects, we can prevent this situation.

Within the concept of the ecological safety of Kazakhstan for 2004-2015, the issue of reducing the levels of industrial and household waste is the most crucial.
