15th meeting of Consultative Council in charge of Implementing Cultural Strategy for Islamic World held in Khartoum

Baku, September 18, AZERTAC The 15th meeting of the Consultative Council in charge of Implementing the Cultural Strategy for the Islamic World kicked off this morning in Khartoum, capital of the Republic of the Sudan. The meeting is being organized by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), in cooperation with the Sudanese Ministry of Culture and in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on 18-19 September 2017, as part of celebration of Sinnar as the Arab region's Islamic Culture Capital for 2017. During the opening session of the meeting, addresses were delivered by Hasab Al-Rasoul Ahmed El Shikh Badar, the Sudan's State Minister of Culture; Mohamed Ghemari from ISESCO; Mehla Ahmed Talebna from the OIC; and Maryam Nasser Sulaiman Al Kharbooshi, on behalf of the Chairman of the Consultative Council. The session was attended by the representatives of the Member States in the Council, a host of cultural figures and academics from the Sudan and the representatives of local and international media outlets. Items placed on the meeting agenda include the "Director General's Report on the Implementation of the Cultural Strategy for the Islamic World", the "Draft Amended Version of the Cultural Strategy for the Islamic World", the "Draft Document on the Guidelines Related to Culture and the City", the "Draft Amendment to the Rules of Procedure of the Consultative Council in charge of Implementing the Cultural Strategy for the Islamic World", the "Draft Rules of Procedure of the Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers", and the "Draft Agenda of the 10th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers", due to be held in Khartoum, on 21-23 November 2017, under the high patronage of Field Marshal Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir, President of the Republic of the Sudan, and as part of the festivities marking the celebration of Sinnar as the Arab Region's Islamic Culture Capital for 2017. The Consultative Council in charge of Implementing the Cultural Strategy for the Islamic World was established pursuant to a resolution by the 2nd Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers (Rabat, November 1998). It is entrusted with examining the strategies, action plans, charters and cultural projects submitted by ISESCO, in light of the Cultural Strategy for the Islamic World; adopting the documents to be submitted to the Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers; and providing the General Directorate of ISESCO with the conceptions and guidelines necessary for developing joint Islamic cultural action. The Council held fourteen meetings: eight at ISESCO headquarters and six in Riyadh, Algiers, Dakar, Sharjah and Baku (2009-2015). ISESCO is represented in this meeting by Mr Mohamed Ghemari, Director of the Executive Council, General Conference and Specialized Ministerial Conferences, and Dr Abdelilah Benarafa, the Supervisor of the Culture Directorate.
