Baku American Center re-opens after major renovation

Baku, September 16 (AzerTAc). The Embassy of the United States of America in partnership with the Azerbaijan University of Languages re-opened the Baku American Center (BAC) after major renovation. “With a new face and newly created Kind`s Corner, BAC will offer a wider range of programs and services which include English language learning, information about education opportunities in the U.S., and lectures and programs about the culture and history of the United States,” the Embassy said in a statement. Rafik Mansour, Senior Deputy Director for Public Affairs in Europe and Eurasia at the U.S. Department of State and Dereck Hogan, Charge d`Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Baku, officially opened the Center alongside Samed Seyidov, Rector of Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL). Speaking to the opening ceremony, Mr. Seyidov hailed the role of the Center in developing Azerbaijan-USA relations. Shahla Khudiyeva, Director of the Center, said the American Center was the main destination for Azerbaijanis who want to study English and learn about America. “The Center has an extensive American library, with resources for English language learners, students interested in learning about study opportunities in the United States, and rich collections of books and periodicals about U.S. society and culture. Additionally, the Center has free Internet access and offers subscriptions to such scholarly databases as EBSCO and J-STOR.” The American Center was first opened in Baku in 2004, and has been located at the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) since 2008.
