Maiden Malaysia Fruits Festival In Oman Huge Success

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), May 24 (Bernama) -- The maiden Malaysian Fruits Festival held at Carrefour in the City Centre of Muscat, Oman last Saturday was a huge success as locals turned up by the droves to free sampling of almost 500kg of fruits. In a statement, the Malaysia Embassy in Oman said the one-day promotion was organised by the Malaysian Agriculture Consul Office in Dubai, in collaboration with the embassy. Carrefour provided an opportunity for the locals to taste fruits such as mango, pineapple, jackfruit, rock melon, rose apple, papaya, watermelon and starfruit. A variety of by-products made from Malaysian fruits such as mango cheese tartlets, jackfruit jelly, mixed fruit salads, puddings and papaya pickle were also sampled by the public. Present at the launch were the consul office's agriculture consul Shahid Abu Bakar, Carrefour vice-president of marketing and sourcing, Elias Michel Yazbeck and Malaysia fruit exporter from DRS Trading Sdn. Bhd, Abd Aziz Sakiman. Also present were local importers, members of the diplomatic corps and the media. Malaysian Ambassador to Oman, Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany hoped the initiative would translate to an increase in bilateral trade involving the agricultural sector of Malaysia and Oman in the coming years. As of last year, he said the bilateral trade in agriculture stood at US$6.31 million (RM26 million) in exports. Carrefour is a French multinational retailer. --BERNAMA
