The international community recognizes Kazakhstan’s accomplishments during its presidency in the UN Security Council. President Nazarbayev’s initiatives have become an example of peacemaking policies for many countries. Permanent representative of Equatorial Guinea to the UN, Anatolio Ndong Mba says Kazakhstan’s presidency in the UN Security Council was fruitful. The Central African country is ready to reiterate Kazakhstan’s proposals in January 2019 during its presidency in the UN Security Council. Equatorial Guinea is a non-permanent member of the UN body in 2018-2019.

ANATOLIO NDONG MBA, PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF EQUATORIAL GUINEA TO UN:
- This chairmanship has been very humane, we had very important events, historic visit to Kabul of the fifteen members of the Security Council to express solidarity with the people of Afghanistan on their struggle for development and for restoration of peace and security and then also open debate on Central Asia and development which Kazakhstan seems to be very central actor in the Central Asian region. Kazakhstan introduced a novelty – ceremony of installing the new non-permanent members of Security Council, installation of their flags. It was a very good ceremony.

Peacekeeping operations and their reform were the theme of the debate held at the UN Security Council in New York. At the session presided by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte Kazakhstan was represented by deputy defense minister Talgat Mukhtarov. Minister Mukhtarov said that protracted conflicts require collective approach and joint action by the stakeholders. He also noted that peacekeeping missions should hold their activities in areas where security forces are not able to provide security. The Kazakh Minister also mentioned the importance of cooperating with regional organizations.

TALGAT MUKHTAROV, KAZAKH DEPUTY MINISTER OF DEFENSE:
- Current conflicts are so complicated that the peacekeeping operations alone cannot resolve them. Successful implementation of actions is based on thorough analysis of the key causes of conflicts, investing in the development, combating climate change, solving the issues of food security, water and power deficiency. Such approach can lead to the development of the effective action plan on establishing peace.
