Polling of the 2017 presidential election ended at the same time at 10pm on national level. According to the preliminary vote counting, Democratic Party’s candidate Battulga Khaltmaa is leading with about 511,826 votes, followed by S.Ganbaatar (MPRP) with 406,724 and M.Enkhbold (MPP) with 404,852 votes.
However, this is insufficient for claiming a complete victory in the election as set out in the Law on Elections of Mongolia, and the situation is leading to a potential second phase of the presidential election, Kh.Battulga himself stated.
Throughout Mongolia, a total of 1,318,511 citizens cast their votes and the voter turnout reached 66.54 percent so far. To be specific, 613,857 people voted in Ulaanbaatar, which represents 67.73 percent turnout and 704,654 voted in other parts of the country, resulting in 65.53 percent voter turnout. Chairman of the General Election Committee Ch.Sodnomtseren explained “it is a preliminary result”. Overall voter turnout along with the election result will reportedly be finalized within June 27.
