From June 1 to 5, Mongolia had celebrated successfully this year’s World Environment Day under the slogan “Think, Eat, Save: Reduce your Food Print”.
Mongolia was selected as the host country of this year’s World Environment Day. Delegates and researchers of many countries came to Ulaanbaatar and discussed issues on nature and environment protection, and green development policy within five days.
The Prime Minister of Mongolia N.Altankhuyag, UN Under-Secretary-General and UNEP Executive Director Mr. Achim Steiner, Minister of Nature and Environment and Green Development of Mongolia S.Oyun, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia L.Bold and other delegates from foreign countries attended the closing ceremony for the international event.
“Mongolia has ancient culture and tradition on nature protection experiences. The future development trend of the country will be based on green development principle”, said the Premier of Mongolia, N.Altankhuyag.
Then, UNEP Executive Director Mr. Achim Steiner underlined that “Increasing of energy consumption is followed by the growth of green house effects. So, we need in energy saving policy. Thus, it is necessary to decrease negative influence of mining on the society and properly think and plan how to develop mining sector for the sake of country’s future”.
According to the study released recently, 220 million tones of food are lost as waste a year. It is considered that the wasted foods increase the amount of green house effects. In this regard, the participants in the World Environment Day’s activities in Mongolia specially discussed issues on reducing the food print and ensuring the appropriate consumptions.
The slogan “Think more, Consume properly and Save” is the simpler, but more useful and well-timed call, highlighted the delegates.
