AA team enters Libya's Bani Walid region, under siege
BANI WALID (A.A) - September 27, 2011 - Anadolu Agency (AA) team entered on Tuesday Bani Walid region in Libya, which has been under siege of armed forces of Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC).
Muammar Gadhafi's troops opened fire on the vehicle carrying AA team and the vehicle was attacked by snipers.
Only ambulances carrying injured people and lorries that have heavy weapons at their back travel on the road. Weapons, ammunition and foodstuff are carried to Bani Walid front by lorries.
It is possible to see many tanks, heavy weapons and troops who are getting prepared to go to the front or who have just returned from the front in Bani Walid.
NTC forces are taking the injured to a field hospital, some 30 kilometers away from Bani Walid, by ambulances to be treated.
Those who are battling against Gadhafi are motivating each other by making victory signs and voicing God's name.
AA team's vehicle entered the region under the rifle range of Gadhafi forces, defending Bani Walid, at the end of a two-hour ride.
Then, AA team reached the closest point-- two kilometers-- towards Gadhafi troops, who opened fire on the vehicle.
Vehicle carrying AA team, who wanted to enter houses in Bani Walid, was under Gadhafi artillerymen's attack when it almost approached a house.
Two artilleries fell 200 meters away from the mentioned house, and every one in the region hid himself/herself in houses.
Then, snipers opened fire and every one in the area were taken behind the front by lorries as snipers stopped fire.
NTC forces started a response fire when snipers opened fire, and the injured NTC soldiers were taken to field hospitals by ambulances.
Commander of the leading troop in Bani Walid front, Ibrahim Avived said Gadhafi's armed units were using civilians as a shield, and NTC forces could not attack the city with heavy weapons because they did not want to harm civilians.
Avived said he was a prosecutor during Gadhafi's rule, and many doctors and teachers were fighting against Gadhafi today.
Moreover, Ahmad Haruda said he was an aircraft engineer, and Bani Walid was an important front in Libya war.
Logistic assistance to be provided for Gadhafi's soldiers was hampered thanks to this siege, Harudu also said.
