Al-Lami: We are proud there is no prisoner in Iraq on the issue of opinion or publication

Baghdad / NINA / - The President of the Federation of Arab Journalists, the head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Moayad Al-Lami, affirmed that Iraq is proud that there is no prisoner in the case of opinion or publication, and this is counted to the Supreme Judicial Council and the President of the Supreme Judicial Council.

 

Al-Lami said, during the celebration of the World Press Freedom Day, today, Wednesday, "we celebrate today with the whole world the Press Freedom Day. This is the World Press Freedom Day. We are living real suffering in most countries of the world, as journalists in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and even Europe are subjected to numerous harassment and violations of their work rights, therefore, in solidarity with each other in the countries of the world and the Arab countries, especially to convey real pictures of the work of journalists and stop these attacks, violations and arrests that occur in the country or elsewhere.

 

He added, "We are proud in Iraq that the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate has contributed a lot to the release of dozens of journalists around the world in Arab and European countries for being the president of the Arab Journalists Federation and also the membership of the International Federation of Journalists, and we have contributed since the earliest time to the release of journalists who were behind bars, and also in Iraq we are proud that Iraq has no prisoner in the case of opinion or publication, and this is counted to the Supreme Judicial Council and the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan, and this is a strong and positive sign for the countries of the world, especially within the vicinity of Iraq, which are countries witnessing violations and arrests of journalists or issues of freedom of the press and expression except in Iraq is unique with many countries in the world that Iraqi prisons are clean from any journalist and media person on the issue of opinion or publication. We are working very quickly with the current Iraqi government headed by Muhammad al-Sudani because he is one of the strong supporters of journalistic work and freedom of opinion and expression.

 

He went on to say, "I hope that this year will constitute an important episode for building the country and real democracy in Iraq and the development that we all seek to launch strongly as we see it today in the service and industrial aspects and people's rights that the government wants to see clearly."

 

Al-Lami added that we are on the verge of celebrating the Iraqi Journalism Day with its 154th anniversary, with the participation of more than 50 countries, media, political and cultural personalities, and no less than 150 personalities.

 

Al-Lami stressed that this celebration has an advantage because it is a message to the world that Iraq, which provided many journalists, is still strong in order to build a free press that can contribute to building the country and spreading a true culture to all citizens.

 

Al-Lami concluded his speech by saying: We extend our thanks to UNESCO for its activities in Iraq and for its contribution and true partnership with the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate and all supporting parties./ End
