Manama, May 16 (BNA): Bahrain will host the meeting of the Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development at the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) on May 17.

The meeting will be chaired by MP Ahmed Sabah Al-Salloum, Council of Representatives member, APA Vice-President, and APA’s Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development Chairman.

The meeting will be attended by deputies, members, and heads of delegations from around 23 different Asian parliaments.

The APA meeting will discuss eight projects and will focus on establishing a joint Asian energy market, alternative energy, and climate change.

The meeting will also stress the importance of sustainable development and protecting the environment by using environmentally friendly materials.

The meeting will emphasize the need for assistance provided to less developed Asian countries in terms of alternative energy, natural resource management, improving economic conditions, and providing sustainable work environments.

The draft resolution also urges APA parliament members on the importance of legislation and enacting renewable energy laws to activate the role of Asian parliaments in the future of renewable energy.

The meeting agenda includes a project on financial affairs to ensure efforts for Asian economic growth.

APA parliament members and Asian governments are urged to adopt new policies and develop more inclusive and innovative growth strategies to achieve more resilient, balanced, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth that creates jobs and promotes equality to create a regional network for small and medium enterprises.

The meeting will also discuss ways to eradicate poverty in Asia, reduce inequality, ensure food security, and improve education and health care.

MPs and their governments will work on developing a poverty-eradication strategy, while governments are encouraged to assist in implementing effective policies to promote sustainable, inclusive, sustainable economic growth, full-time and productive employment for all, improvements to labor market systems, and infrastructure and services for less fortunate communities.
