Azerbaijan Embassy Seeks Collaboration With Malaysian News Agency For Tourism Documentary
KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 (Bernama) -- The Azerbaijan Embassy in Malaysia and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) have indicated an interest in working together to create a documentary that highlights the country's tourism, culture, and educational prospects.
Ambassador Irfan Davudov emphasised the untapped potential of showcasing Azerbaijan's beauty to the Malaysian people despite 30 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
“There is much more we can collaborate with Bernama to promote the tourism aspects of Azerbaijan,” he told Bernama after paying a courtesy call to Chief Executive Officer of Bernama, Roslan Ariffin at his office at Wisma Bernama here, Friday.
During the courtesy call, Davudov stressed the importance of collaboration between Bernama, Malaysia's official news agency, and Azerbaijan to promote the tourism aspects of the country.
Azerbaijan, situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, offers diverse and appealing tourism opportunities for visitors.
The capital city of Baku, known for its vibrant atmosphere and rich historical heritage, stands out with its UNESCO-listed Old City (Icherisheher), medieval architecture, and iconic landmarks such as the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs.
Baku also boasts modern attractions like the Flame Towers, Heydar Aliyev Centre, and the Caspian Sea Boulevard.
Although there are no direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Baku, Davudov mentioned that Malaysians have the option of flying to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and then taking a two-hour flight to Azerbaijan.
Davudov proposed that Malaysians could also travel to Turkey and then fly to Azerbaijan, where both countries share similarities in language and culture.
He also highlighted the potential for Azerbaijani students to pursue educational opportunities in Malaysia, suggesting that more could be done to promote this opportunity to Azerbaijanis.
He issued an invitation to Bernama to take part in the next Global Media Forum, with the topic "New Media in the Era of the 4th Industrial Revolution," which will be held in Shusha, Azerbaijan, from July 20–24.
Meanwhile, Roslan expressed his enthusiasm for producing a documentary on Azerbaijan, considering Bernama's audio-visual capabilities.
He acknowledged that many Malaysians are not familiar with the country and emphasised the need to revisit the news exchange cooperation between AZERTAC, Azerbaijan State News Agency, and Bernama, which was established 18 years ago.
Azerbaijan, founded on May 28, 1918, became the first secular and parliamentary democracy in the Islamic and Turkic world.
Notably, it is the first Muslim-majority country to grant women the right to vote. After being invaded by the Soviet army in April 1920, Azerbaijan regained its independence in 1991 and became the Republic of Azerbaijan.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Malaysia, established on April 5, 1993. The Azerbaijani Embassy in Kuala Lumpur opened in June 2007, while Malaysia's embassy in Baku opened on April 1, 2014.
