The envoy made the statement while leading the kingdom’s delegation to the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Coordinating Bureau, which was held here today.
Themed "NAM: United and Steadfast in Facing Emerging Challenges", the meeting was chaired by Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
While addressing the opening session of the meeting, the ambassador affirmed that Bahrain’s diplomatic approach is consistent with the goals of the NAM, citing the kingdom’s constant keenness on consolidating security and peaceful coexistence, as well as cultural and civilisational rapprochement for the best interests of the entire humanity.
The Kingdom stresses the importance of joint diplomatic action in ending wars and settling regional and international disputes by peaceful means, foremost of which is advancing the just, comprehensive and lasting peace process in the Middle East by supporting the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and the two-state solution, the ambassador said.
He added that Bahrain renews its appreciation for the positive regional developments, including the continuation of the humanitarian truce in Yemen, the return of Syria to the all-inclusive Arab League and the resumption of the Saudi-Iranian diplomatic relations, stressing the need to carry on collective commitment to strengthening security and stability in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, Libya and Afghanistan, as well as to ensure the success of international mediation efforts to achieve peace between the Russia and Ukraine.
Dr. Al-Abdulla underlined the importance of establishing the values of tolerance, pluralism and international cooperation as basic pillars to support the goals of the Non-Aligned Movement and the United Nations in achieving security, peace, development and human rights.
In this regard, he took pride in the pioneering Bahraini initiatives, led by His Majesty the King, including the inauguration of the "Kingdom of Bahrain Declaration", the establishment of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, in addition to the launch of the “King Hamad Global Award for Dialogue and Peaceful Coexistence”, along with other ambitious humanitarian initiatives.
He emphasised that the success of the Non-Aligned Movement in building a more stable, just and solid political and economic system that is capable of consolidating global peace and security and implementing the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, without leaving anyone behind, requires strengthening unity and deepening partnership among member states at various levels.
These include the establishment of international relations on the basis of mutual respect and the principles of good neighbourliness, facing common security challenges through peaceful settlement of armed conflicts through dialogue, as well as fighting terrorism and drying up its financial and intellectual sources, he said.
They also include protecting the environment, reducing the negative effects of climate change and investing in renewable energy projects, in addition to supporting the least developed countries, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan added.
