100 Malaysian Entrepreneurs to Take Part in Halal Food Expo in Xi'An, China

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- The Institute of Halal Research, University of Malaya (IHRUM) and Upaya Vista Sdn Bhd have selected 100 local entrepreneurs to represent Malaysia in the Third China Xi'an International Halal Food Expo 2017 in Xi'an, China from April 11 to 18. Universiti Malaya Academy of Islamic Studies Director Prof Dr Zulkifli Mohd Yussof said the expo would be the best access for local entrepreneurs to penetrate into the international halal markets and expand their businesses globally. "The expo is a continuation of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universiti Malaya and the Shaanxi Zhenhua International Exhibition Co. Ltd. on Feb 10 in Xi'an. "The entrepreneurs selected will IHRUM apprentices in forging cooperation through participation in international halal exhibitions, halal research, halal certification and the export markets," he told reporters after a briefing and the second series of the selection entrepreneurs here Thursday. Meanwhile, Upaya Vista Sdn Bhd Director Noraini Saad said the company had been involved in international expos in China for the past 16 years and had opened Malaysian halal hubs in Xi'an, Qinghai, Chengdu, Lanzhou and Urumqi. She said the three main criteria in the selection of entrepreneurs selection for the expo were namely, they must have a factory, and their products ought to have halal certification and must be of high quality. "This is because the expo organisers have set strict conditions for participants to showcase only high-quality products at the event. "The expo is an opportunity for high potential local products to be marketed in the halal hubs," she added. -- BERNAMA
