12.12 Orders In Malaysia Up 15-Fold, GMV 7 Times Higher
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 (Bernama) – Orders that online shoppers made in one day during 12.12 increased by a whopping 15 times compared with the average number of orders in the first week of December, according to ShopBack, a one-stop lifestyle portal.
ShopBack also found that Malaysian consumers like to grab the best deals right after midnight and this behaviour is observed in major online sales throughout the past three years.
Filipinos shared similar traits with Malaysians while the Singaporeans and Thais tend to do last-minute shopping – just a few hours before the end of 12.12.
"For the Malaysia market, it is estimated that the Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) for 12.12 is seven times higher than a typical day in December,” said ShopBack Malaysia Country General Manager, Alvin Gill in a statement.
December is the peak season for e-commerce industry as people tend to make purchases on travel, Christmas, and New Year related items.
Gill said among all the Southeast Asian countries that ShopBack operates in, Malaysia ranked second in terms of the number of orders, slightly behind Indonesia, but about 80 per cent higher than Singapore.
Among the over 40 partner stores that ShopBack Malaysia collaborated with on 12.12, Lazada, Shopee and Taobao emerged as the top three stores.
Lazada and Shopee also remained as the top stores in Southeast Asia.
Marketplace, fashion and beauty, and travel were the popular verticals and this result is similar to 11.11, with 65 per cent of the total traffic on 12.12 coming from mobile app.
ShopBack is a cashback portal that helps over 7.0 million users in making smarter purchase decisions on more than 1,500 online partners in seven countries -- Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Australia.
In Malaysia, it has over 1.0 million users and works with over 500 online partners such as Lazada, Shopee, Zalora, 11street, Qoo10, fave, Hermo, Taobao, Booking.com, Expedia, and many more.
