190,000 bus passengers expected today

BANGKOK, Dec 29 (TNA) – The Transport Co Ltd, operator of the inter-provincial buses has added bus trips to serve more passengers during the New Year holidays as the highest number of travellers is expected today. Most passengers or about 190,000 people are expected to leave the capital for their hometown upcountry today after Bangkok’s three main bus terminals have been crowded with at least 100,000 passengers each day on average since Dec 25. President of the Transport Co Ltd, Jirasak Yaowatsakul said that, yesterday, the firm increased bus trips to 7,900 from 6,200 trips at the normal period. Today, about 8,700 bus trips are arranged to serve 198,000 passengers, expected to travel home for the New Year celebrations. Vans are provided to send passengers from the Mor Chit bus terminal for the northern and northeastern lines to board the buses at the Land Transport Department to ease traffic congestion at the bus station from 6 pm to 10 pm. For the safety measure, the firm’s all buses are required to be checked everytime before each trip and the GSP system is installed to control the bus speed at a maximum of 80 kilometres per hour. Moreover, he said two drivers are provided for each route, over 400 kilometres long. (TNA)
