574 Building Permits Issued During December 2015 in Qatar

Doha, January 11 (QNA) - The total number of building permits issued by all municipalities of the State of Qatar during the Month of December 2015 reached 547 including permits for buildings, additions and fencing. The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics said in the monthly report on Statistics of Building Permits issued by all municipalities of the State During the month of December 2015, that Rayyan municipality (including Sheehaniya) comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued were 172 permits, 31% of the total issued permits. Doha municipality came in second place with 160 permits, 29%, followed by municipality of Al Wakra with 58 permits (11%) and after that municipality of Al Daayen with 57 permits, 10%.The rest of the municipalities were as follows : Umm Slal 53 permits (10%), Al Khor 29 permits (5%), and finally Al Shamal 18 permits (3%). In terms of the type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits constitutes 61% (331 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of December 2015, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 37% (200 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3% (16 permits). By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, we find that villas permits top the list, accounting for 70% (193 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans by 13% (36 permits) and apartments buildings by 13% (35 permits). On the other hand, it is noticed that the industrial buildings e.g. workshops and factories are found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 44% (25 permits),followed by commercial buildings with 30% (17 permits), followed by mosques with 16% (9 permits), then government buildings with 5% (3 permits) only. Building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy, and a main pillar for the basic infrastructure of many other activities. It is worth mentioning that the release of this monthly data comes under the joint cooperation between the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics and the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning to make use of the existing electronic link between the two ministries.
