Ashgabat International Energy Charter Forum Kicks Off

By Siti Hawa Othman ASHGABAT (Turkmenistan), May 31 (Bernama) -- The two-day Ashgabat International Energy Charter Forum kicks off here Tuesday, hosted by Turkmenistan as Chair of the Energy Charter Conference 2017. Themed "Towards a Multilateral Framework Agreement on Transit of Energy Resources", the forum was attended by delegates from some 50 member countries of the International Energy Charter, as well as international and business organisations related to the energy field. Ensuring energy security and diversifying supply sources and routes in the context of climate change is identified as one of the main priorities in accordance with the approved concept of its chairmanship. The forum is chaired by Dr Urban Rusnak, Secretary-General of the International Energy Charter, who pointed out on the importance of a universal legal instrument for the sustainable transit of energy. Maksat Babayev, Chairman of Energy Charter Conference and also Deputy Chairman of Turkmenistan Cabinet of Ministers, gave the welcoming remarks followed by addresses by the Head of Delegations. -- BERNAMA
