Bahrain bourse participates in IOSCO 2021 World Investor Week

Manama, Oct. 11 (BNA): Bahrain Bourse (BHB), a self-regulated multi-asset marketplace and an affiliate member of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), has participated in the fifth annual World Investor Week (WIW). Parallel to the IOSCO WIW, BHB participated in the World Federation of Exchanges' annual ‘Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy' initiative to join 78 other global exchanges holding virtual bell ringing ceremonies, workshops, and events to drive awareness of the importance of financial literacy. The initiative included producing a series of awareness videos featuring 17 key participants from various listed companies and educational institutions as well as other key stakeholders to highlight and showcase Bahrain Bourse's Awareness Programs. In addition, Bahrain Bourse held a series of virtual workshops in partnership with several financial institutions and universities to introduce students to the capital market and Bahrain Bourse, where more than 2,300 attended the workshops. “It gives us tremendous pleasure to take part in the World Investor Week that promotes investor education on a global level. We strongly believe in the importance of promoting and facilitating investor education and awareness as one of our key strategic pillars,” Shaikh Khalifa bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa, CEO of Bahrain Bourse said. “Over the years, Bahrain Bourse has focused its efforts on financial literacy and investor awareness through various programs and initiatives, including the TradeQuest Program, the Smart Investor, the Investment Academy, and the Capital Markets Apprenticeship Program,” he added. “We believe in building a generation of investors that are well-equipped with the knowledge and understanding of financial markets to guide them in effective financial planning,” Shaikh Khalifa said. “I welcome this fifth edition of the IOSCO World Investor Week. This annual global initiative has effectively disseminated key investor protection messages worldwide particularly at a time when a growing number of retail investors are participating in securities markets,” Ashley Alder, Chair of the IOSCO Board and the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, said. “Despite the pandemic, the IOSCO WIW´s educational initiatives continue to play a critical role in fostering confidence in the markets and protecting retail investors.” WIW is a week-long global campaign launched by IOSCO to increase awareness of the significance of investor education and protection, as well as to highlight the various efforts of securities regulators in these two key areas. For the third year in a row, IOSCO and the WFE are collaborating on an initiative to support WIW dubbed “Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy.”
