Manama, Aug. 4 (BNA): Following the successful implemeniontat of the Dilmun Star Programme last year, which captured a practical, high energy learning experience for 21 aspiring entrepreneurs in the fashion industry, Bahrain Fashion Incubator is accepting applicants for the second cohort of Dilmun Star 19/20.
Dilmun Star last year was held under the patronage of Zayed Al Zayani, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, and in strategic partnership with Tamkeen, UNIDO, AICEI, SEU-UNDP, Fashion Technology Accelerator (Italy) and Kingdom of Innovation (3D printing provider), along with several Finale Gala Dinner sponsors.
The Dilmun Star Programme is a Pre-Incubation Programme that equips around 21 fashion designers and fashion enthusiasts over a period of nine months with technical knowledge and business tools to be able to pursue the path of entrepreneurship and develop globally competitive brands. Last year, the programme participants have developed capsule fashion collection based on the following themes: technology, sustainability and heritage. The Participants were able to use the latest in technology such as laser fabric cutting machines, digital printing machines and 3D printing to create their collection and accessories. They pitched their concepts and presented their creations to a panel of judges which included professional industry buyers, and fashion experts.
Commenting on the programme, Jalila Aarab, Founder and CEO of Bahrain Fashion Incubator said: “We are very pleased to offer this unique programme again this year to talented individuals looking to improve or establish their brands. We are proud to be able to offer master classes facilitated by local and world renowned experts in fashion and entrepreneurship. This year, we modified the Dilmun Star programme so it better fits the needs of aspiring fashion designers. Our ultimate goal is to create a viable eco-system for fashion in the region through strategic partnerships with local and international bodies.”
Around 200 esteemed delegates from public and private institutions attended the Finale Gala Dinner that took place in April of this year. This is when Bahrain Fashion Incubator celebrated the graduation of Dilmun Star participants where they showed their collections on the fashion runway. The attendance included VIP guests, representatives of diplomatic missions, honorary guests from France that represent prestigious institutions such as the Institut Français de la Mode, the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, École supérieure des affaires. In our next Finale Gala Dinner, we are also inviting renowned Arab designers and influencers from the region and Media personalities from Vogue Arabia and regional media outlets.
As far as BFI’s efforts in creating partnerships with international entities, it is in the process of establishing strong collaborations with French counterparts to elevate Luxury Management, Creation and Marketing in Bahrain to be emulated in the entire region.
