Bangkok city hall requires clarification on BTS breakdowns
BANGKOK, June 26 – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) wants the BTS operator to explain about the BTS skytrain frequent breakdowns and delays following complaints by commuters.
Bangkok deputy governor, Sakoltee Phattiyakul said that the BMA sent an urgent letter to the BTS, demanding the clarification over the breakdowns and delays, which occurred 27 times since the beginning of this year.
It also asked the company about the solution and compensation for passengers.
The deputy governor said that the concession contract between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc (BTSC), the BTS operator cannot be amended or terminated.
The contract ends in 2029.
Earlier, Dr. Anat Arbhabhirama, member of Advisory Board of the BTS said the cause of the train delays on Monday was the signal system interfered by the radio signal. As a result, the operation system was switched to manual system for safety reasons.
The company is currently adjusting the signal system to make it more stable in order to serve the opening of the Green Line’s southern extension from Bearing to Samut Prakan at the end of this year. (TNA)
