BIBF holds masterclass on corporate governance

Manama, Oct. 23 (BNA): Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) recently held a Masterclass on Corporate Governance for the senior management team of the Bahrain Islamic Bank (BISB).
The programme was held under the leadership of Hassan Jarrar, the CEO of BISB incorporating Central Bank of Bahrain’s (CBB) recommendations on upskilling senior executives with the global best practices of Corporate Governance.
The programme was designed with a special focus on delivering Strategy and Risk management Principles to benefit the Executive Management in "controlled functions" to support their individual competencies and consequently supporting the bank with best practices and human capital development.
The BIBF’s Director Solveig Nicklos said:
"The BIBF conducts these programmes regularly, consistent with the requirements of the Corporate Governance Code of Bahrain, which has laid special impetus on the role of the management team of BISB in promoting good governance across the organisation. We are pleased to have had the opportunity to run this for the financial services sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain".
The BIBF’s Head of Banking Deen Jayah, said:
"We are delighted with the positive feedback that we have received from the senior management team of BISB, who attended this two day programme on Corporate Governance with a special focus on Strategy and Risk management. The participants were briefed on global best practice through case-based learning techniques. The Centre for Banking at BIBF is currently working closely with the management team of BISB to organise further engagements to improve the capacity of their senior management"
On behalf of himself, Hassan Jarrar, Bahrain Islamic Bank Chief Executive Officer, said:
"Corporate Governance has taken on added significance during the past decade in the face of increased cross-border regulations and the added responsibility on institutions to consistently do things right. In fact, we believe that creating a proper corporate governance culture in today’s environment has been proven to be healthy for the bottom line, as well. As part of our ongoing staff development efforts at all levels within the organisation, this corporate governance workshop was an important and a timely step towards strengthening the capabilities of BIsB’s senior management. We look forward towards future quality events".
The Masterclass was attended by the BIsB’s CEO along with senior management team members. It was led by Seamus Gillen – a leading Board Advisor. Gillen has worked extensively with boards and senior executives in the UK, the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Hong Kong, China, India, Malaysia, South Africa and the Baltic States.
