Bid to become rice export champion to HK

BANGKOK, Feb 26 (TNA) -- Thailand’s Commerce Ministry has mapped out four strategic plans to make the country champion again in rice export to Hong Kong, said Malee Choklumlerd, director-general of Department of International Trade Promotion. Ms Malee said related agencies and Thai Trade Promotion Office in Hong Kong under the Thai consulate have prepared four strategic plans to enable Thailand to regain the crown of the number one rice exporter to Hong Kong after the country lost its position to other countries in the past years. She said the plans, which called for strengthening friendship with rice importers in Hong Kong, to point out outstanding quality of Thai rice, invite Hong Kong importers to visit Thailand and prepare marketing activities, have achieved success in the past three years as purchasing orders had increased. The Commerce Ministry has set the target to export 200,000 tonnes of rice to Hong Kong in 2017. (TNA)
