Bioeneco Set To Grow Biomass Fuel Sales Globally, Focus On Japan

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- Bio Eneco Sdn Bhd (BioEneco), which recently secured contracts from Japan and the Philippines, plans to supply 2.3 million metric tonnes of biomass fuels globally for the next three years. The home-grown biomass fuel developer, manufacturer and supplier said it plans to expand its biomass hub near Northport, Port Klang, in order to facilitate its global expansion with a focus on Japan which has a projected total biomass demand of 23 million tonnes in 2025, nearly triple the current rate. Managing director Oliver Yeo said Japan is the world’s fifth largest biomass market and its government has shifted from fossil dependency to renewable energy, aiming to account for 22-24 per cent of its electricity mix by 2030. “This has effectively spurred the demand for biomass fuels like palm kernel shell (PKS) and wood pellets as more renewable energy facilities come on stream. “BioEneco has secured contracts with top multinational corporations to supply biomass fuels to power plants in Japan and is expecting to secure more in the upcoming months," he said in a statement. Yeo added that with a strong presence in the region, BioEneco is confident that its high-quality products will be able to meet Japan’s demand. BioEneco, which has exported millions of tonnes of high-grade biomass fuels globally, is also currently contracted to supply biofuel products to South Korea, Thailand and the Philippines. “The first bulk of PKS shipment to the Philippines, weighing 6,800 tonnes, has been shipped and arrived at the Port of Manila recently,” it said.
