Biometric identification for mobile devices to be launched

SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Yonhap) -- A mobile identification service using biometric data such as a fingerprint or a voice will be launched next month, the online trading service provider said Wednesday. The biometric identification process is when a user provides a voice, face, fingerprints or an iris to identify themselves instead of typing in his or her personal information or passwords. The Korea Trade Network (KTNET) said the identification service will be available for all smartphone devices with cameras starting next month. "The mobile biometric identification service does not have initial costs, and users only pay for the services they have used," said a KTNET official. The service will be available first for companies and startups that have mobile applications or websites, who will then provide the service to regular customers. khj@yna.co.kr (END)
