BMTA is procuring 3,000 new buses
AYUTTHAYA, June 28 – The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) donated 110 decommissioned buses to 25 schools and governmental organizations and will acquire 3,000 new buses.
Presiding over the donation ceremony, acting BMTA director Somsak Hommuang said the donation was aimed at allowing the recipients to use the vehicles for the public interest.
He also said that the state enterprise planned to procure 3,000 new buses in the next five years to replace its old buses that had been in use for more than two decades. That is to cut maintenance costs and support 138 new routes designed by the Land Transport Department.
In fiscal 2017, the BMTA decommissioned 110 old buses and donated them to the 25 schools and governmental organizations.
The 110 old buses comprise 13 air-conditioned Daewoo buses, 25 air-conditioned Man buses, 8 air-conditioned Mercedes-Benz buses, 45 air-conditioned buses of other brands, an non-air condotion Isuzu bus, and 18 non-air condition Hino buses. (TNA)
