Boeing & Scoot To Demonstrate Features Of Dreamliner At Singapore Airshow
By Massita Ahmad
SINGAPORE, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Boeing and Scoot Pte Ltd will demonstrate the passenger-pleasing features of the Boeing 787-9 on the first day of the Singapore Airshow 2016.
The airshow, Asia's largest aerospace and defence exhibition, will be held for six days from Feb 16 at the Changi Exhibition Centre here.
"Scoot currently operates ten 787-8 and 787-9 airplanes, and plans to open new markets and routes with an additional 10 787s on order," Boeing Southeast Asia President Skip Boyce told Bernama in an email interview.
Scoot, a low-cost long-haul airline owned by Singapore Airlines, launched its flights in 2012 on medium and long-haul routes from the republic, mostly to Australia and China.
Better known as 'Dreamliner', 787 is a long-range, mid-size wide-body, twin-engine jet airliner developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
Besides 'Dreamliner', Boyce said the aircraft manufacturer would also have its defence product line up for the Airshow.
The defence products expected at the show, include the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) F-15SG fighters, as well as AH-64D Apache and CH-47 Chinook helicopters.
A U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon, two F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft and a U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey are scheduled to be on static display, he said.
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III, which will be participating in the show flying display, will also be on static display for visitors, he added.
The Boeing exhibit at the show will feature the company's family of commercial airplane models, including the 737 MAX, 747 Intercontinental, 777X, 787 Dreamliner, as well as a 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter.
New to this year's show, Boyce said the company would portray an interactive virtual reality tour of passenger airplane interiors.
On the defence side, the exhibition will present interactive displays, operator consoles for the P-8 Poseidon and Maritime Surveillance Aircraft, as well as models of the ScanEagle unmanned aerial system and other products.
Boeing will also have an Advanced F-15 Simulator in the RSAF exhibit area.
"The 2016 Singapore Airshow is also special for Boeing as we celebrate our centennial this year. Boeing will commemorate its 100th anniversary on July 15 this year.
"We are stronger, more competitive and more innovative than ever as we launch our second century.
"Much of this success is credited to the partnerships forged over the years in markets such as Malaysia, Singapore and the rest of Southeast Asia, where we have been present for almost 70 years," Boyce said.
