BOI to overhaul investment strategies

BANGKOK, April 7 (TNA) - The government–run Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) will work closely with the Ministry of Finance to review the country's investment framework and to lay out new national investment strategies over the next three-five years, when the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is established. Thai Industry Minister M.R. Pongvas Svasti said Saturday that the BOI, under his ministry's supervision, and the Ministry of Finance will jointly review or add new industries eligible for Thailand's investment privileges covering environmentally-friendly and logistics projects. M.R. Pongvas assessed that the BOI is expected to complete the task within this year and the new reviewed privileges will be publicly announced to prospective international investors soon after. According to the industry minister, the BOI will also encourage more Thai business operators to invest overseas, especially in other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as part of Thailand's preparations for the formation of the AEC by 2015.
