Brother Of Malaysian Businessman Who Was Shot Dead In Hatyai Demands Immediate Investigation

ALOR SETAR (Kedah, Malaysia), Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The brother of a Malaysian businessman who was shot dead in Hatyai, Thailand on Friday wants the Thai police to provide proof over allegations that the motive of the incident was due to debts. Only wanting to be known as Ah Lee, the 50-year-old said he was shocked to read newspaper reports today saying his brother Lee Ah Han was shot dead over a debt of US$974,879 (35 million baht, US$1 = 35.74 baht) that he owed another Malaysian businessman. Bernama on Saturday quoted Thunglung mukim police chief, Col Vichapan Chantraporn as saying Thai Police found that the victim, had paid the 35 million Baht debt using 'bounced' cheques and his debt problem had prolonged for six months. "The statement is false because my brother had never owed anyone money, if they claimed he had used 'bounced' cheques, the Thai police must show proof," he told reporters here Sunday. He said the false report had tarnished the good name of his brother and he demanded an immediate investigation into the case to find the mastermind behind the incident. Lee, 54, was shot dead while travelling to the Hatyai International Airport with his wife Mayuree Thipmani, 42. --BERNAMA
