BTS apologizes for skytrain breakdowns

BANGKOK, June 26 (TNA) – Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc (BTSC), the BTS skytrain operator apologized for the electric train breakdowns and delays in the past two weeks. BTSC Chief Executive Officer, Surapong Laoha-Unya said the malfunctions of the elevated trains on Monday and in the past two weeks were caused by radio system adjustment for the signal system to make the train operation more stable and to serve the Green Line’s southern extension. The new route extension will be operational at the end of this year. The signal system adjustment and installation is expected to be finished on June 29. Moreover, he said the radio signal interference also contributed to the breakdowns particularly at Prompong station, Asok station and Siam station. For the safety reasons, the trains delayed, so it led to overcrowding of passengers at many stations, especially during rush hour. The company has accelerated to find the cause of the problem and fix it while giving priority the safety standard of the train operation.
