Buffalo fair held in northeastern Thailand

BANGKOK, December 15 (TNA) - Thailand’s Maha Sarakham province is hosting its first-ever Thai buffalo fair in Chiang Yuen district to promote quality beef cattle production for local consumption and exports. Figures show in 2010, there were 38,000 water buffaloes in the province. The amount dropped to only 26,200 this year as farmers turned to other forms of business and sold their animals at low prices. Currently, Maha Sarakham is among 25 provinces designated beef cattle development zones, where some 120,000 cows are being bred at local dairy farms. (TNA)
